The Waiting Story

My name is Kat, I'm a graphic designer by day and a singer/songwriter by night. I create beautiful designs and lead workshops that teach Gen Z and millennials how to connect with God in their everyday moments of life. It’s my passion to teach 20s and 30s how to hear God’s voice, discern his calling, and above all, to grasp how wide, how deep, and how vast God’s love is.

For the past two years, I have been working on my first musical project called THE WAITING. It all started when I accompanied my mother, Jean Watson on a trip to Nashville, singing a few songs on her new album, “Home.”

It was during this time that we cowrote the song, “Psalm 51.” When the first track was laid, we simply looked at each other and wept. It was this moment that caused her producer, Billy Smiley, to say, “What are you doing with your life and why aren’t you making music?” By the end of the trip, we agreed to make a full-length album together… I had no idea that the creation of this album would be the most costly, yet rewarding work of my life.

When I returned from this trip, my roommates often found me obsessively writing in my room as soon as I got home from work each day. I spent hours every day frustrated by my inability to write “fun” and “uplifting” music.

After all, what was true of myself in that moment was that I was chronically anxious, lonely, and heartbroken. “Who wants to listen to that?” I thought. And yet, the more I wrote, the more I couldn’t ignore the signs— My house was falling apart, and I didn’t have the tools to build a new one.

This was the state I found myself in while writing, THE WAITING. Over the course of two years, God began to build a new house for me— one that was built on the truth that his power is made manifest in weakness and that the Holy Spirit is the Great Mender of my story. This was when my first song, LIVE was born.

I wanted this album to feel as intimate and vulnerable as the writing process was. It was my desire that each song showcase what it means to be human, to long for something and to WAIT on the Lord.

I wanted my voice to remain unedited and ensure that we use as many raw instrumentations as possible. Billy and I partnered to hire many talented musicians to make these organic sounds come to life. Artists like, Tommy Sims, Brennan Smiley, and Dan Needham added their own unique flare to the album. Billy and I also created a signature method of layering my voice to create a warm tone amidst many weighty songs throughout the album.

As you listen to THE WAITING, you’ll find many intentional marks of humanity throughout. The album is designed to invite you into the reality of your greatest longing as well as recognize God’s presence in THE WAITING of these longings to be fulfilled.

As you might guess, this has been an expensive project. In fact, the making of this album is the most costly work I have done at this point in my life. But if listeners encounter the love of God through THE WAITING, this project will continue to be the most rewarding work of my life. I can't wait to share this musical journey with you and with the world! I have poured all my resources into this work and may or may not have financed a music video through literal blood sweat and tears (aka: plasma). Still, I am trusting for about $10,000 to finish the final payments of recording, mixing, and mastering, as well as design, videography, legal fees, manufacturing, and distribution.

That's where you come in. I am asking for people who will partner with me to create something bigger than ourselves! There are lots of perks and rewards you can receive for contributing at whatever level you are able. A gift of any size will help!

Please pass the word along to your friends, family, and anyone you know who might benefit from the message of THE WAITING. Above all, no matter how big or how little your involvement is, thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing alongside me in this journey, for encouraging me, and for lifting this ministry up to the Lord. I am deeply grateful~
